Work Group 2

TIGER Standards & Interoperability Collaborative

Working together using this wiki

This wiki is a shared online whiteboard that allows the entire group to easily share information to each other and other TIGER collaborative team members. The material on the wiki should be considered to be in draft format and will be published on the TIGER website at www.tigersummit.com upon completion.

Activities of Work Group 2

Develop tutorials that educate health care workers/nurses and the basics and value of standards and interoperable systems.

Target audience:  2.9 million practicing nurse - (AD/BSN) - assume no prior informatics knowledge

Goal:  Basic understanding of standards, benefits of interoperability, and the role of the nurse in using, promoting, developing standards and interoperable systems.

Fxve proposed categories of standards:
  1. Clinical care standards (e.g., using evidence-based practice tools and decision support)
  2. Terminology standards (eg., using nursing terminology)
  3. Information model standards (e.g., standardizing data elements, implementing electronic health records, electronic exchange of information for interoperability, etc.)
  4. Workflow standards (e.g., multidisciplinary view of similar information, etc.)
  5. Technical standards (e.g., HIPAA, quality of technology solution, etc.)

Determine the methodology for the tutorials - we'll start with PowerPoint(R)

Feb 5- Activity: Review and update learning bbjectives (8)  v2 Draft below. Complete before Feb 12, 2008 by editing in the Wiki Draft below.

Feb 5- Activity: Read the ANA scope and standards to identify content for tutorials.  Complete be fore the Work group 2 meeting in March
